What Has God Delivered You From?

Do we often remember the many answers to prayer God has blessed us to see? Or are we like many of the Israelites, in the wilderness, who seem to have short term memories?

Why Does Gratitude Matter?

Gratitude directs our hearts toward Jesus-Our Savior & High Priest.

First of all, let’s make sure we know who it is that truly deserves our gratitude. Especially in this day of great demonic deception-in every sphere of society. Those who stand on a platform and ‘thank God’ while they mean ‘thank god’ as in the prince of the power of the air-(along with the fallen angels)they cannot mock God. And some people say ‘praise Jesus’ when their heart means ‘another Jesus’. Whether it be in giving, praise, prayer, song…God will judge all deceivers, hypocrites and liars.

But we who know the One and Only Jesus Christ, the Savior that died on that cruel cross in place of us-he took our sins and in return he gifted us his righteousness.

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. II Corinthians 5:21

There’s no God like our God, who clothed himself in flesh, and became human like us. Why? So that he could become the perfect, holy sacrifice for the sins of the world:

Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.

Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. Hebrews 2:14–18

Gratitude Stirs up the Memory of How Often Our God Has Delivered Us.

When we remember past answers to prayer, it should awaken deep thankfulness within our hearts and minds. The song of Moses and Miriam, or Song of Deliverance in Exodus 15, declares God’s power and sovereignty. All Israel sang praises to Him for the glorious deliverance he graciously gave to His people at the Red Sea, defeating their enemies.

Also King David sang praises to God for deliverance-

The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.

It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me.

He delivereth me from mine enemies: yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.

Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.

Great deliverance giveth he to his king; and sheweth mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore. out of the hand of the enemy: Psalm 18:46–50

Gratitude Belongs to God, Our Father.

Whenever Jesus gives us answers to prayer-such as supernatural blessings, healings, peace, protections or wisdom-are we truly grateful? Do we always remember to give him thanks and share a testimony of his grace and mercy?

12 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off:

13 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.

14 And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.

15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God,

16 And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.

17 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?

18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.

19 And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

Luke 17:12–19

Simply put, gratitude is a humble attitude. Ingratitude is produced in these type of mindsets or emotion: Complaining, entitlement, and self-pity. Doesn’t this remind you of the Israelites attitude in the wilderness?

They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city to dwell in.

Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.

Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.

And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.

Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!

For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.

Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, being bound in affliction and iron;

Because they rebelled against the words of God, and contemned the counsel of the most High:

Therefore he brought down their heart with labour; they fell down, and there was none to help.

Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distresses.

He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.

Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! Psalm 107:4–15
