He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. Isaiah 53:1-4
Jesus suffered on the rugged, blood stained cross for the world's sins..for our sins. He was mocked, spit on, wounded and pierced. That was the purpose for him becoming flesh and blood. Or human like us. Still yet, Jesus was without spot or blemish(perfect, without sin). Despite being the Son of God, he learned obedience from the things he suffered while here on earth.
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
Hebrews 2:14-16
Lament In The Midst of Your Suffering
In I Samuel Chapter 1, we learn about Hannah a married woman who was childless. One day she went to the temple to pray, pouring the sorrow of her heart out before God. The priest saw her mouth moving but heard no words. So he believed she was drunk. People, including other believers, may misjudge us in the midst of our pain and sorrow. But God knows and understands how we feel deep within the recesses of our soul. And he cares so much more too. Several months later Hannah gave birth to a baby boy named Samuel.
In the psalms, David often lamented to God. Lament is a prayer or cry of grief, sorrow, or confusion directed to God because of suffering, or injustice. It's necessary for us to process our pain and heartache with the One who cares and understands us the most.
How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?
How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine
enemy be exalted over me?
e enemy say, I have prevailed against him; and those that tPsalm 13:1-3
For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.
For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.
But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.
They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that is good.
Forsake me not, O Lord: O my God, be not far from me.
Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.
Psalm 38:17-22
The sorrows of death compassed me, and the pains of hell gat hold upon me: I found trouble and sorrow.
Then called I upon the name of the Lord; O Lord, I beseech thee, deliver my soul.
Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; yea, our God is merciful.
The Lord preserveth the simple: I was brought low, and he helped me.
Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the Lord hath dealt bountifully with thee.
For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.
Psalm 116:3-8
Godly Sorrow
As humans, we all face unforeseen circumstances and evil oppression from our enemies in this world. Moreso, because of consequences of our own sins, we have to walk the path of sorrow. Yet, the convicting power of Jesus' Spirit can draw us to repentance and deliver us from its guilt and shame. (II Corinthians 7:10)
Remember who paid for our forgiveness and freedom? The 'man of sorrows'. He came under the judgment of God because of OUR sins. That's why he cried "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?"(Matthew 27:46) He felt abandoned because the weight of the wicked sins of the whole world was placed on him. We may never understand how great his pain and suffering was on that cruel cross-physically, emotionally or spiritually.
Sow In Tears
Turn again our captivity, O Lord, as the streams in the south.
They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.
He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
Psalm 126:4-6
Joy In The Morning
Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.
Psalm 30:4-5
Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away.
Isaiah 51:11
Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
Jude 1:24-25
